Father who lunged at convicted child molester Larry Nassar in court will not face charges

The father who lunged at disgraced U.S. gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar during court Friday will not face any charges.

A special hearing was held in the Michigan courtroom for Randall Margrave after an outburst in court.

Two of Margraves’ daughters gave statements Friday and said they had been molested by Nassar. They said their sister had been as well.

After his daughters spoke, Margraves, asked the judge for “five minutes” in a locked room with “that demon.”

“I would ask you, as part of the sentencing, to grant me five minutes in a locked room with this demon,” he asked. “Would you give me one minute?”

The judge said she could not do that. “That’s not how our legal system works,” she said.

That’s when Margraves attempted to attack Nassar. But bailiffs were quick to stop the father and immediately wrestled him to the ground.

“I want that son of a b****!” the father screamed as he was being restrained.

Officers put him in handcuffs and walked him out of the room. Nassar’s hearing was then put on a break.

Assistant Attorney General Angela Povilaitis told families in the courtroom to “use your words” and that violence “is not helping your children.”

Later a special hearing was held for Margraves, with the judge saying he was in “direct contempt of court.”

“Just for the record, you need to know that I can give you a jail sentence. I could fine you up to $7,500,” the judge said. “I don’t want to do that.”

“I don’t know what it would be like to stand there as a father and know three of your girls were injured physically and emotionally sitting in a courtroom. I can’t fathom that.”

But she followed, “you have to understand this is a courtroom and where we enforce the rule of law. I cannot tolerate or condone vigilantism.”

Margraves then apologized and said he will not be at any future Nassar proceeding.

“I am embarrassed,” he said,. “I didn’t come here to upstage my daughters.”

Nassar is in court for his third and final sentencing hearing. The hearing began Wednesday, with around 60 people confronting the former doctor to read victim statements.
