TSB launches investigation into death of CN worker in Melville, Sask. rail yard

The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) says it’s investigating the death of a Canadian National Railway employee who was injured at a railway yard in Melville, Sask.

The employee, earlier identified as a 26-year-old woman, was fatally injured on Dec. 22 while performing “regular duties” at the company’s Melville yard.

A preliminary report by the safety board says the foreman got caught between some of the cars when she tried to stop them from rolling back uncontrolled.

She was seriously injured and later died.

The woman’s name has not been released.

The TSB had initially said Transport Canada would handle the case since it was considered a labour investigation, but the safety board began its own review on Thursday.
