An extreme cold weather alert has been issued for the City of Toronto as a cold front moves into the region.
Global News meteorologist Ross Hill said Toronto experienced a major shift in temperatures Friday.
“Along with the temperature drop, there has been a variety of precipitation: rain, freezing rain, ice pellets, and to top it all off the snow that has been falling.”
Hull said the snow should taper off by the early evening. He said western parts of the Greater Toronto Area can expect heavier snow amounts.
The sudden change in temperature comes after Toronto experienced its warmest day on record for a Jan. 11 with a high of 12 C. It broke the previous mark of 11.7 C established in 1975.
The forecasted high for Toronto on Friday is 1 C with an overnight low of -12 C.
