MONTREAL – The Jasmin Roy Foundation and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts have announced a partnership aimed at raising awareness of the issue of bullying in Quebec.
By working together, the two organizations hope to provide a space for children to discover art and offer a unique way to help them to understand the difficult and complex phenomenon of bullying.
The Jasmin Roy Foundation, seen as a leading player in this field, has been using a variety of platforms to highlight the importance of ensuring safe and secure school environments for our children.
Founder and President Jasmin Roy noted that “in the fight against bullying, an increasing number of schools and community organizations that work with young people have been calling on the Foundation. Art is a unifying force, it helps to bring young people together and counters marginalization.”
The Foundation has provided support for the Museum’s programme Bringing Art to the Schools, launched in 2010. The project creates a poster featuring a major work from the Museum’s collection, which is then given free to schools and community organizations. Each poster offers food for thought and encourages reflection on a current issue or problem.
In close collaboration with the Jasmin Roy Foundation, the Museum is also reinventing on of its school tours called The Art of Being Human. The project will bring school children face-to-face with the artworks while discussing subjects connected with human relations, including that of bullying. It is being created for elementary and high school students and will be ready the fall of 2013.
