When holidays come to an end and it is time to undo the decorating, what do you do with your Christmas tree? Kicking it to the curb is not an option in Winnipeg.
The City of Winnipeg, in a release issued Dec. 27, said trees placed next to recycling or garbage carts will not be collected.
From Dec. 27, 2017 to Jan. 31, 2018, residents are encouraged to recycle their trees at one of the Let’s Chip In depots.
Remember to remove plastic tree bags, tinsel, lights, decorations and tree stands before tossing your tree.
Drop off locations are as follows:
- Charleswood Centre*
- Kilcona Park
- Kildonan Park
- King’s Park
- Panet Road Community Recycling Depot*
- St. James Civic Centre*
- St. Vital Park
- Vimy Arena*
- Winnipeg Soccer Complex*
The Charleswood, Panet Road, St. James Civic, Vimy and Winnipeg Soccer sites all have 24-hour access.
Real trees can also be dropped off at 4R Winnipeg Depot locations at 1777 Brady Road and 1120 Pacific Avenue.
Anyone wanting free wood chips is welcome to help themselves (take your own container with you), while supplies last.

Last holiday season, 9,414 trees were recycled, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
