A dog that had fallen into an icy pond last Friday will be enjoying a warm holiday after it was rescued by police officers in New Jersey.

According to the Hopewell Township Police Department, the dog was struggling to get out of the pond on its own and emergency personnel were called to the scene.

Officer Robert Voorhees was fastened to a rope and crawled to the edge of the lake. Video footage shows the distressed pup swimming towards the officer, who grabs it by the collar.

“Good girl, Nisel!” the owner can be heard saying in the background.

Voorhees dragged Nisel out of the frigid waters and onto solid ground, to the delight of the rescuers and Nisel’s owner.

The dramatic late-night rescue has garnered over 35,000 views on the police department’s Facebook page.
