Avaya said Friday it has completed the $915-million U.S.
takeover of Nortel Networks enterprise operations. It won the
business, with $2.8 billion in sales in 2008, in an auction battle
with Siemens Enterprise Communications. Avaya is hiring 6,000
employees, including 375 in Ottawa. Division head Joel Hackney
becomes senior vice-president of government solutions and data for
Avaya. Nortel also got Ontario court protection from creditors
extended to Jan. 29 to block lawsuits for unpaid bills.
