Police watchdog investigating after man injured in Mississauga multi-vehicle crash

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a man was injured in Mississauga while allegedly fleeing from Toronto officers.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said in a statement police began following a vehicle from the Fairview Road West and Hanson Road, south of Hurontario Street and Central Parkway West, just before 5 p.m. Tuesday after they received information someone in the vehicle was involved in a bank robbery.

A short time later the vehicle crashed into four other vehicles at Hurontario Street and Rathburn Road.

According to the SIU statement, the man ran away from the collision scene and was arrested a short time later by police. He was taken to hospital to be treated for an undisclosed serious injury.

Peel Regional Police said multiple roads in the area had to be closed for the investigation.

The SIU is an independent enforcement agency that investigates incidents involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury or alleged sexual assault.
