The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) is making donations of wild meat to Saskatchewan charities this holiday season.
Chief Bobby Cameron and other FSIN executives will be on hand to distribute the protein to the Prince Albert Food Bank and North Battleford Lighthouse on Tuesday.
“As many First Nations and other families are struggling, we want to do our best to make their holiday season better. Donating wild meat is one thing we can do,” Cameron said in a press release.
“We believe in giving back and we encourage everyone with the means to remember their local food banks and shelters. Every bit matters to those in need.”
FSIN, which represents 74 First Nations in Saskatchewan, has previously made these donations around the holidays.
“We are exercising our treaty rights and engaging in activities that our ancestors have been engaged in since time immemorial,” Cameron said.
“These lands have always given to us and we have an obligation to give to those who cannot do for themselves.”
Donations will also be delivered on Wednesday to Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) students and the Lighthouse in Saskatoon.
