Speed cup stacking taking off in Monteregie schools, around the world

 

MONTREAL – The New Frontiers School Board in Monteregie recently held its annual speed cup stacking tournament, a sport that is quickly gaining popularity due to benefits in hand-eye coordination.

“Basically we started about three years ago, just bringing in the schools,” said physical education teacher Chad Campbell.

“Getting them into speed stacking, and as you can see it’s become big in this area.”

About 20 countries worldwide field competitive teams, and physical education teachers can mix-up exercises with the stacking.

Parents say that the game can make kids better at other sports, “because they’re ambidextrous when they play it and it teaches them to be calm, said Catherine McGregor, a mother of three competitive speed stackers. “When you’re flustered you don’t do well.”
