A woman is dead and a man remains in critical condition after a Thursday night assault.

Winnipeg police first responded to the home on William Avenue at 6:45 p.m. after hearing reports of an injured person.

Emergency crews located a man suffering from “serious injuries” and an unconscious woman in unstable condition. They were both rushed to hospital where the woman was pronounced dead. The man remains in hospital.

Police are only releasing minimal information on the incident. Officers were on scene on William Avenue between Ellen Street and Gertie Street for much of Thursday night.
