A program that gives out warm meals to people on the Downtown Eastside is proving so successful it’s already expanding.
As of late November, tokens for breakfast sandwiches are available online or at Save on Meats.
The tokens are handed out to people in need of a warm meal.

The owner planned on giving out eight to 10 a day. But it turns out, it’s about 10 times that many.
So he’s expanding the program to include another much-needed item in the area: warm clothes.
“The program is going to expand into a sock token in a couple of weeks, with the collaboration with a local streetwear group called Stussy,” said Mark Brand, owner of Save On Meats. “The biggest problem down here is people walking around all the time, and it’s one of the last things that they have income to purchase, but it’s such an important thing to keep your feet warm and dry.”
