The victim of a homicide last week in Forest Lawn is being hailed a hero by family members.

Calgary police identified 36-year-old Humberto (Robert) Panameno as the man found stabbed to death in a home in the 1800 block of 39 Street S.E. on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

On Tuesday, family members and police addressed the media regarding the death, which police have called a domestic incident.

“He saved me, without any thought. Saved my mother, saved my children. He did not think of his [life] and I will forever be grateful,” a family member named Karen said.

Karen’s last name is not being released for privacy reasons.

“What gives a little bit of comfort is knowing that he gave his life to save another,” Panameno’s sister Doris Panameno said.

“My family and I stand here with a broken heart. My brother was a courageous man and he always showed love and compassion to everyone. He was the type of person that always liked to help people in need.”

Doris went on to say the family forgives Salazar for taking their loved one from them.

“We forgive you because I know deep in my heart that my brother forgave you the moment he took his last breath.”
