4 people facing over 75 charges after gas and dash and police chase in central Alberta

A crime spree across three RCMP jurisdictions in central Alberta has resulted in 78 charges being laid against four people.

On Nov. 17 at around 7:15 a.m., a gas and dash in Spruce View, Alta. was reported to the Innisfail RCMP. The two vehicles involved reportedly drove west toward Caroline, so RCMP in Rocky Mountain House were contacted.

Officers came across the two vehicles, one of which RCMP said was previously stolen from Red Deer, at the intersection of Highway 22 and Highway 54 at around 8 a.m. They attempted to pull the two over, but the drivers drove away again.

Police were able to pull both vehicles over a short time later on Trunk Highway 734. Four people were arrested at the scene.

Inside the vehicles, police said they found stolen credit cards, bank cards and cheque books, along with counterfeit Canadian and American currency. A BB gun, methamphetamine and marijuana were located in one of the vehicles, RCMP said.

Dylan Steinbach, 24, of Innisfail is facing 15 charges, including theft of fuel, seven counts of possession of stolen property and one count of flight from police.

Katie Lynn Carpenter, 19, of Red Deer is facing 13 charges, including seven counts of possession of stolen property, two counts of produce counterfeit money and one count of flight from police.

Both Steinback and Carpenter have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Nov. 30.

Also charged is Brenden Darcy Bowe, 26, of Red Deer. He’s facing a total of 30 charges, including 13 counts of possession of stolen property and six counts of breach of recognizance.

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 22.

Natasha Fyfe, 32, of Three Hills, is facing 20 charges, including 13 counts of possession of stolen property and one count each of possession methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.

She has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Rocky Mountain House Provincial Court on Nov. 29.

Police said the majority of the stolen IDs were from Red Deer and Sylvan Lake.
