Hamilton police have launched a fraud investigation connected to a Kijiji ad.
Police say several victims contacted them on Nov. 1, saying they had been defrauded of their first and last month’s rent after answering an ad to sublet a house in August and September.
The victims met with the female suspect to provide first and last month’s rent, but when it came time to move in, the victims learned the house was never available in the first place.

Police say the suspect has been identified and charges are pending.
Due to the number of financial documents involved, police say their investigation is expected to take a couple months.
Investigators say there is no concern of further incidences.
