Charges laid in armed home invasion in Lethbridge

Police have charged a man in connection with a violent home invasion in Lethbridge on Tuesday.

A man armed with a gun broke into a home in the 500 block of 12 Street South at about 5:15 a.m. on Nov. 14, police said.

They said the suspect threatened a man and woman inside the home, demanding cash and drugs.

“The subject discharged one round inside the home and then fled the residence when one of the occupants was able to identify him,” police said in a statement.

No one was injured.

Officers eventually tracked the man to a home in the 600 block of 12 Street South, where he was taken into custody “without incident.”

Investigators said the suspect and victims were known to each other.

Jonathan Alexander Kogler, 29, faces a string of weapons-related charges as well as charges of uttering threats to cause bodily harm, housebreaking with intent and disguised during the commission of an offence.

He is currently awaiting a judicial interim release hearing.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed “suspicious activity” in the area between the hours of 4:45 a.m. and 5:15 a.m. to call police at 403-328-4444.
