Three neglected small dogs are recovering after they were found wandering in Centre Wellington earlier this month.
The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) said the dogs were suffering from severely matted fur when they were picked up by an animal protection officer on Nov. 6.

All three poodle-mixes are female and are estimated to be about five years old.
None of them was wearing identification.
“Upon examination and treatment by a veterinarian, it was discovered that the matting was so severe it was causing the dogs a significant amount of pain and discomfort,” said the GHS in a news release. “The matting was so heavy around their feet and legs that it impeded their ability to walk and move freely.
One of the dogs still has difficulty walking as a result of ligament damage and the veterinarian suspects that is a direct result of the matting, GHS said.

“We are looking for the public’s assistance to help find the owner of these dogs,” said Megan Swan, an Ontario SPCA agent. “Due to the condition in which the dogs were found, we are concerned this could be a case of long-term neglect. This matting would have occurred over months and months.”
