MONTREAL – One person is injured and two others are missing after a landslide in a quarry near L’Épiphanie, Que.
Quebec provincial police are leading a rescue operation at Maskimo Quarry, about 45 kilometres north-east of Montreal.
Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Benoit Richard confirmed to Global News that firefighters and police received a call at 10:15 a.m. EST.
“There were three workers on the scene,” Richard said. “Two inside a truck and one on a loader.”
They were apparently working when the ground suddenly gave way and the vehicles fell several hundred feet.
Helicopter footage shows a truck on its side, buried in debris, with what appears to be smoke still rising from its engine.
One lone figure, covered in dust and snow, could be seen on live television, pacing several hundred feet from his buried colleagues.

Benoit confirmed that the man pictured was one of the three workers involved in the incident.
The remaining two workers are considered missing. The names of those involved have not been confirmed.
A rescue operation is currently underway, but with restricted access and unstable ground, the next steps must be carefully planned.
Just after noon, the Quebec provincial police used a helicopter and a team of specialists to descend into the quarry and rescue the injured quarry worker.
