Nanaimo gains an unwanted new nickname

It appears Nanaimo is developing a reputation for drug trafficking.

RCMP have nicknamed it “Drug Hub City” because it functions at the centre of the Vancouver island drug trade.

Police say drugs get on to the island through Nanaimo. They then head north to Campbell River — west to Port Alberni and Tofino and south to Victoria.

Nanaimo RCMP recently seized a loaded handgun and about $120,000 dollars worth of cocaine, heroin, crystal meth and cash.
