TORONTO – Toronto has a new hot spot for classical music, but it’s not what the average concert-goer might expect.
Music lovers now have the option to check out Classical Socials, a weekly show held at Fionn MacCool’s in the city’s entertainment district.
Under the direction of conductor Simon Capet, the group consists of classical musicians who come together and sight-read works by greats such as Mozart and Beethoven.
Musicians then mix with the audience after the show to share a beer and break down stereotypes that hang over the community.
Pub owner Greg Garson, a self-professed arts lover, says he hopes to give locals broader exposure to the city’s musical offerings while bringing in traffic on a quiet night.
Classical Socials will convene every Sunday night.
