TORONTO – Research In Motion has landed themselves a 30-second cameo during the biggest night for television commercials – Super Bowl Sunday.
The BlackBerry maker announced on January 25 that BlackBerry 10, RIM’s latest mobile operating system, will be featured in a commercial during Super Bowl XLVII.
“A Super Bowl commercial, is a great opportunity to show the re-designed, re-engineered and re-invented BlackBerry to tens of millions of consumers on the largest advertising stage of the year,” said RIM’s chief marketing officer Frank Boulben in a press release.

“BlackBerry has 30 million social media fans, and we’re looking forward to continuing to encourage them and all NFL football fans to see the power of BlackBerry 10 for themselves.”
The BlackBerry 10 commercial will air in both Canada and the U.S. and will kick off a week of worldwide launch activity for RIM’s BlackBerry 10 platform and the two new smartphones the Waterloo, Ont.-based company will debut on Jan. 30.
In addition to the commercial, BlackBerry will be integrated into a number of pre- and post-game digital and social media activities.
According to a report by The Ottawa Citizen, Super Bowl ads have sold for more than US$4 million for some 30-second spots during this years game.
Companies paid an average of $3.5 million for a 30-second spot last year.
