Crowds of trick-or-treaters filled the front lawn of one home at 627 Erskine Ave. in Peterborough on Halloween night. Homeowner, Gary Conroy, says his “bad bones pirate ship” display has been a big draw to his home on Halloween, ever since he created it four years ago.
However, since he recently moved to Erskine Street, from Shirley Street, he didn’t have enough time to plan the full seven-section extravaganza on his front lawn, so this year he put up a smaller version.
“Everything on the front yard this year is in relation to the haunt that we put together every year. So the pirate ship [that I normally have] did not sail this year. It’s still in storage and it will arrive in 2018 on the front yard,” said Conroy.

The home of the “bad bones pirate ship” is a world that Conroy has created to take children on a unique journey as well as to try to scare them.
“When you come through those gates, this is a world that I have created, this is my story and so when you come in here I tell it the way that I see it and the way that I want it to be projected,” said Conroy.

Conroy says the full 25-foot pirate ship display takes a month to set up and year to plan. Conroy says he makes it a community effort and gets five or six children from the neighbourhood to help put the ship together.
“It’s going to be quite a display for next year that goes up here,” said Conroy.
