Remains of Calgary man missing since January found near crash site

The remains of a man last seen in January were found three weeks ago, near the collision site where he went missing.

The remains of David McSween were found by a citizen between Lac Des Arcs and Dead Man’s Flats on Oct. 5.

Canmore RCMP were called and helped Calgary police with identification, in conjunction with the Medical Examiner’s Office.

“We are somewhat glad to have found some form of closure, but are still very saddened and upset by the news of his passing,” the family wrote in a statement to Global News.

Calgary police said McSween was last seen along Highway 1 west of Canmore at around 10 p.m. on Jan. 23.

Officials said at the time they believed he was driving west on Highway 1 near Canmore, when he was involved in a collision that damaged his car.

RCMP found the car soon after near Dead Man’s Flats, according to an Alberta missing person report published at the time.

Police said at the time a passing motorist may have stopped to offer McSween a ride.

Investigators said Friday the man’s death is not considered criminal.

“As such, no further information will be released.”
