Halloween is less than a week away, which means it’s crunch time for some people still trying to figure out what to do for a costume.
For stores like Audrey’s Costume Castle, it’s the busiest time of year. Staff say movie themes are always popular, with some hot-selling costumes based on Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad.
“We have a lot of people coming in and doing superheroes, we have a lot of people coming in and doing ‘Pennywise’ from the movie It,” Justin Cousineau, assistant manager of Audrey’s Costume Castle, said.
Costume prices do vary, but according to staff at Audrey’s, it can be done on a budget.
“You can do a costume for really, really cheap. You can do it for $10 if you want to put on some makeup or do something really simple,” Cousineau said.
If you’re looking to stick out from the crowd, you could buy a locally made mask or put on a wig and create your own character using coloured contacts, face paint, latex pieces and even fake teeth.
“It’s crazy to think how far we’ve come because when you think of Halloween back in the day it was just kids with painted faces. Now I’m selling people full foam latex masks, fake noses, compound fractures, latex pieces, it’s nuts!” Jake Watson, the store’s makeup specialist, said.
