Ward 8 Coun. Terry Whitehead is calling for “alternatives” for motorists encountering traffic snarls while commuting between the upper and lower city.
The city politician representing Hamilton’s west mountain says “I can’t go anywhere without being torn apart about what’s going on down here, and the delays that people are facing.”
Whitehead has identified one such alternative and has signaled plans to revive a motion that would convert Queen Street from one-way to two-way traffic.
He says that frustrations are mounting among his residents, as a result of delays caused by lower city bike lanes, including the newly installed ones on Bay Street.
Whitehead’s motion to convert Queen Street to two-way traffic was tabled earlier this year to allow for discussion with city councillors in the other affected wards.
Cyclists will celebrate the official opening of the new Bay Street bike lanes during a ceremony on Friday morning.
