Prof. Popsicle lives up to his name

Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht, better known as Prof. Popsicle, has become famous for his cold-weather exploits.

The kinesiology professor at the University of Manitoba, who is a medical doctor, researches human responses to exercise and work in extreme environments.

On Tuesday, Jan. 22, he told Morning News co-host Derek Taylor how to dress for the cold.

What’s made him famous is his willingness to try his experiments out on himself. During his research, he’s had hypothermia four times, he jumped into a pool of ice-filled water for the Late Show with David Letterman and he helped create educational videos on survival in cold water.
