Sunday evening power problems cause SkyTrain disruption

There were a few hiccups in SkyTrain service Sunday evening.

TransLink spokesperson Jill Drews says the problems started shortly before 7 p.m.

“We became aware of a power issue. It was a power rail issue, so it meant that there was no service for some time New Westminster over to Surrey, as well as affecting the Millenium Line between New Westminster Station and Sapperton.”

Shuttle buses were put into place not long after, and affected stations were closed.

Service was restored between New Westminster and Surrey shortly before 8 p.m.

Millenium Line service between New Westminster and Sapperton was restored at 9.45 p.m.

Drews says TransLink apologizes for the inconvenience to passengers, and understands the frustration people feel when there are delays.
