MONTREAL – Police were at the scene of a violent attack in Montreal North, which sent three men to hospital after mayhem and chaos broke out at a jewellery store.
Shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday, two armed black men burst into the Prince jewellery shop in Park Extension, allegedly demanding jewels. Instead of handing over the precious goods, Global News was told the four employees inside fought back.
Police say one of the suspects drew a handgun, but it’s not known if it was real. Knives were also apparently drawn, and a machete may have been used as well.
Three of the four workers suffered cuts in the scuffle.
One employee, an elderly man, was stabbed in the head. His injuries are considered serious. The injuries to the other victims are not life-threatening.
The jewellery shop, located at the corner of St-Roch and Querbes, is a family business that has catered to Montreal’s Indian community for over a decade. The neighbourhood is also home to three schools.
In the coming days, composite sketches of the suspects are expected to be made public thanks to surveillance video. Police say a camera located inside the store was functioning at the time so the attack appears to have been caught on tape.
