There was a ceremonial tree planting Thursday afternoon in Halifax as a way to mark Canada 150.
Members of Halifax City Council, including Mayor Mike Savage, took part in the event, which was coordinated by Tree Canada.
“What better way to leave a legacy of Canada 150 than to plant a tree,” said Michael Rosen, president of Tree Canada.

The organization is hosting 150 tree-planting initiatives in communities across the country as a way to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation.
Rosen says tree planting is a perfect way to celebrate the milestone.
“The easiest thing to remember is that planting a tree is the easiest and cheapest thing that you can do to better the environment,” he said.
“Plant a tree. You’re producing oxygen, you’re giving wildlife habitat, you’re stopping the soils from eroding, you’re helping with energy costs. And best of all, you’re making everyone feel better because you have psychological benefits from looking at trees.”
