Police said the woman was crossing 87 Avenue at 169 Street at around 7:45 p.m., when she was struck by a 2013 Nissan Altima.

Police believe the vehicle was heading north on 169 Street when it turned west onto 87 Avenue, hitting the woman.

The woman remained in hospital Thursday in critical condition.

Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors. Charges are pending against the 47-year-old man driving the Nissan.

The Edmonton Police Service Major Collision Investigation Unit is leading the investigation.
