In 2009: Liberal Stephanie Cadieux won this seat vacated by the NDP’s Jagrup Brar, defeating the NDP’s Debbie Lawrence by over 3000 votes, 54-40%.

History & Geography: Created for the 2001 election, Surrey-Panorama consists of the southern part of Newton and South Surrey. The southern border is 24th Avenue, while the northern border is 64th or 72nd Avenue depending on the area. The Liberals have won this riding in two of three elections it has been contested, with their support concentrated in South Surrey and the area close to the Surrey-Delta border.

Candidates

Liberals-Marvin Hunt: An eight-term Surrey councillor, Hunt was first elected in 1988. He ran for Surrey Mayor in 1993, losing to Bob Bose. He has sat on many regional and national committees over his tenure, and has represented the Americas on the Commonwealth Local Government Forum.

NDP-Amrik Mahil: The president of Blacktop & Checker Cabs, Mahil has also led the Association of Pacific Taxi Owners. He ran for Surrey city council in 2002 and 2005, but was unsuccessful.

Conservatives-Kevin Rakhra: A realtor, Rakhra works with Royal Group Tapestry Realty. He also serves as a volunteer constable with the Burnaby RCMP. He has studied at BCIT, Langara College and the Justice Institute of British Columbia.

Greens-Sara Sharma: An entrepreneur, Sharma is the owner of a group daycare centre. She also works full time in real estate with Sutton Realty, and has a diploma from UBC. Sharma volunteers for her local PAC and a minor league hockey team.
