Hydro-Québec was hard at work on Sunday restoring power to thousands of clients across Quebec after strong winds caused outages across the province.

As of 2 p.m., over 25,000 households were without power — with the hardest-hit areas located in the Laurentians (9,693 customers affected), the Montérégie (5,852 customers affected) and the Outaouais region (1,089 customers affected).

In Montreal and Laval, just over 1,300 homes were without electricity on Sunday afternoon.

In a news release, Hydro-Québec said the outages were mostly due to branches touching power lines due to strong winds.

Environment Canada said wind gusts of up to 52 km/h were expected in the Montreal region throughout the day.
