Prisoner mistakenly released from RCMP custody arrested, charged with assault

A prisoner who was mistakenly released by RCMP is back in police custody and facing more charges in northern Saskatchewan.

Justin Lemaigre, 35, had a court appearance in La Loche on a number of charges including assault and failure to comply. He was released from RCMP custody at around 7 p.m. CT on Monday.

La Loche RCMP said he should not have been released.

Lemaigre was located by police around 24 hours later in La Loche and was taken back into custody without incident.

He is now facing more charges relating to his time out of custody that include assault, theft under $5,000 and three counts of failure to comply.

Lemaigre is expected back in La Loche court on Thursday morning.

RCMP said they are conducting an internal review on the matter.

La Loche is approximately 560 kilometres north of Saskatoon.
