Hamilton may have a leg up, as a potential host city for the 2019 Juno Awards.
The general issues committee has voted to submit a bid, at a cost to the city of up to $550,000, after Manager of Tourism Carrie Brooks-Joiner says Hamilton was approached by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
The rest of the $1.5-million bid cost would come from provincial sources.
Brooks-Joiner added that CARAS officials are scheduled to visit local venues next week.

Hamilton last hosted the Junos in 2015, when a third-party analysis estimated that it received economic benefits of $10.8 million.
The city is also preparing to host next year’s Canadian Country Music Awards.
Until asked to “throw our hat in the ring”, Brooks-Joiner says Hamilton had not planned to bid for the 2019 Juno Awards and was instead going to seek out the event in 2020.
The developments have raised some eyebrows in London, which has actively submitted a bid for 2019.
