Calgary Transit operations staff were greeted with a surprise visitor at the Tuscany LRT station early Wednesday morning. Security cameras captured a moose crossing the elevated walkway at the station at around 2:30 a.m.
“We see all kinds of things on our 24-hour cameras,” said Calgary Transit spokesperson Sherri Zickefoose. “Sometimes it’s lost dogs, one time we actually spotted a cat sitting behind the yellow line as a train was coming in. But, this is probably the first time ever for a moose.”
Zickefoose said the Calgary Transit staff were surprised by the discovery.
“[They] didn’t realize that’s what they were looking at [but] took a closer look, and there it was. A moose!”

Zickefoose said once operations staff realized what they were dealing with they contacted Alberta Fish and Wildlife to ensure the moose and the public were not in danger.

Zickefoose said wildlife have been known to wander onto the LRT tracks; it’s not common.
“We are really careful with our design of our system with fencing and ways to keep and deter wildlife from coming into the system,” Zickefoose said. “I think occasionally there has probably been a coyote spotted, certainly deer, but it very seldom happens because of the design.”
Calgary Transit tweeted still images from the CCTV footage Wednesday morning, resulting in a number of tongue-in-cheek replies from their followers.

“We’re just very happy to be able to give our customers and the public a bit of a laugh this morning,” Zickefoose said.
