Search efforts continue for a man that went missing after a boat capsized on McGregor Lake Saturday morning.

Four men were fishing on the lake when their boat capsized in rough conditions. One man was able to swim to shore and two other men were picked up while swimming by a passing boater.

The fourth man and boat have not been located.

RCMP and EMS were called to the scene around 11 a.m., where three men were treated by paramedics for hypothermia but were not taken to hospital.

Police along with Alberta Fish and Wildlife officers, Vulcan County and Strathmore Fire, and RCMP Air Services searched the lake until light conditions halted efforts. Several boats and sonar were also utilized.

The search resumed Sunday morning but was later suspended due to dangerous high-wind conditions on the lake. However, the ground search along the banks of the lake continued.

“Tuesday we’re hoping the weather changes for the better and we’re getting assistance from the Calgary fire department dive unit, as well as a search and rescue unit out of the southern part of Alberta is going to come out and give us a hand,” Sgt. Troy Dobson said.

“[That is] in addition to our own resources here, as well as Fish and Wildlife and our Vulcan County fire department which have been helping throughout all of this.”

Sgt. Dobson also said RCMP don’t believe life jackets were on board, as none have been recovered. He added, although it’s not uncommon for people to be out on the lake this time of year, the weather can change in an instant.
