The horrible events of Saturday night put Edmonton on the world stage in a way we never wanted to be.

We have seen the reports of other terrorist attacks around the world, but they have always been only as close as your chosen form of media.

Now, a terrorist act has hit home with a bang.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Every side street that led to the harbor viewing area was blocked to traffic by huge pieces of snow or earthmoving equipment, an officer perched on top keep watch.

To even cross the street we had to go through a checkpoint and be searched.

While we must remain calm in the face of this attack, and let the investigation take its course, there may well be increased security around venues that attract huge crowds.
