Calgary police lay charges in Manchester Industrial homicide

Calgary police have laid charges in a homicide that happened earlier this month in the community of Manchester Industrial.

Officers were called to the 5700-block of 2 Street S.W. at around 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, for a check on welfare.

When they arrived, police found a man suffering from stab wounds who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later identified the victim as Valeri Lomakine, 37, adding his death was deemed a homicide.

On Thursday, Sept. 28, investigators arrested and charged a man in connection with his death.

Michael Jordan Hope, 27, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder.

His next court appearance is set for Monday, Oct. 2, 2017.

The investigation into this homicide is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact them.

Lomakine’s death was Calgary’s 18th homicide of 2017.
