A single-vehicle collision in the Kensington neighbourhood in northwest Edmonton killed one person and injured two others, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) said Wednesday night.
Very few details were initially released, but EPS issued a traffic advisory at around 3:11 p.m. that a serious collision was being investigated in the area of 127 Street and 133 Avenue.
Police said officers were called to the crash at 1:10 p.m. They said the car was reportedly headed north on 127 Street when it lost control, jumped a curb and went through a parking lot before slamming into a business.
A 67-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car was rushed to hospital where she later died of her injuries. Police said the 34-year-old woman driving the car and a second female passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
A witness told Global News that CPR was performed on someone from the vehicle after the collision.
Traffic was closed in both directions along 127 Street between 132 Avenue and 137 Avenue as the EPS Major Collision Investigation Section began its investigation. Southbound traffic reopened at around 4 p.m.
Police said the crash is Edmonton’s 21st fatal collision of 2017.
