Edmonton election 2017: Mayoral and city council candidate forums

Edmonton City Hall - seen here on Sept. 17, 2014 . Kent Morrison, Global News

With 13 people running for mayor and 70 people running for a spot on Edmonton City Council, figuring out who to vote for in the October election might be tough.

Edmonton Elections is hosting a series of all-candidate forums over the next couple of weeks to help you make an informed decision.

Because of the sheer number of people running for mayor, the mayoral forums will be a bit different than originally planned. The lunch-hour mayoral forum at the Shaw Conference Centre on Sept. 26 will instead be an introduction session, to give candidates a chance to present their platforms. This session will not include a question and answer period.

The two mayoral forums planned for Oct. 3 and Oct. 11 have been extended to three hours from two. This will allow for more time for questions from the public.

The forums will be live streamed on the City of Edmonton’s website for those who cannot make it in person. Questions will be taken from people in the audience, and on social media using event hashtags listed on the Edmonton Elections website. Third-party moderators will facilitate as many questions as possible from the audience and social media.

Community groups will also be holding all-candidate forums.

Here’s a full list of where and when the mayoral and council candidate forums will be held.
