Mounties looking for man on mobility scooter involved in fatal accident in Coquitlam

An 86-year-old woman is dead following a tragic accident in Coquitlam on Friday.

RCMP said they’re looking for a man, who was riding an electric mobility scooter that was involved in a collision with the elderly woman at the corner of Austin Avenue and Westview Street at 10:20 a.m. on Sept. 15.

The elderly woman, a pedestrian, fell down after being bumped by the scooter and died of the injuries that were caused by the fall.

Coquitlam Mounties said it was an accident with “no criminal intent” but they “still need to talk to the operator of the scooter to hear his side of the story.”

Witnesses describe the man as: Caucasian, 40 to 50 years old with a full head of grey hair, average build and possibly slurred speech.

The electronic mobility scooter he was riding is described as silver or grey with no basket on the front.

Anyone with information that could help identify the man is asked to call Coquitlam RCMP.
