According to Alberta Justice, Mohamed was ordered to stand trial on a lesser charge of manslaughter while using a firearm.

“The Crown prosecutor continued to evaluate the evidence in light of the prosecution standard of reasonable likelihood of conviction,” Alberta Justice spokesperson Katherine Thompson said in a statement.  “As the totality of the evidence did not satisfy this standard, the decision was made to change the charge from second-degree murder to manslaughter while using a firearm.”

The next court date is set for Oct. 13.
