A 3.6 magnitude earthquake rocked Los Angeles late Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported, interrupting a regularly televised local KNBC newscast, where anchors described feeling the jolt.
The earthquake hit at approximately 11:20 PT, which interrupted meteorologist Fritz Coleman’s weather report.
“Did you feel that?” anchor Colleen Williams asked her colleagues. “The studio just shook!”
“Just a very sharp but pronounced jolt,” co-anchor Chuck Henry added. “Things in the studio started swaying.”
Los Angeles residents in the Pacific Palisades, Costa Mesa, and Inglewood neighbourhoods reported feeling the shaking.

Some earthquake-hardened veterans commented on Twitter, including some in Hollywood.
Actor Josh Gad joked that he probably should have checked on his kids, but he scrolled through Twitter instead.
Former CBS Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson quipped that the rumble had him “sitting up in bed with an automatic weapon waiting for zombies.”
The quake was a trending topic on the platform early Tuesday.
The USGS also reported a small earthquake in southeastern Illinois that was felt across parts of Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky about four hours later.
The preliminary 3.8-magnitude earthquake occurred at 6:47 a.m. CT on Tuesday about 12 kilometres northeast of the city of Albion.
The agency says the quake caused light to moderate shaking and very light damage. The quake’s preliminary depth was a little more than 11.5 kilometres.
The Edwards County Sheriff’s office in Albion said there had been no reports of damage or injuries.
Albion is about 225 kilometres west of Louisville, Ky.
