Peter Beckett found guilty of first-degree murder in Kelowna court

A  jury has found Peter Beckett guilty of first-degree murder.

The verdict came down in a Kelowna courtroom late Saturday afternoon.

Beckett drowned his wife Laura Letts-Beckett while boating near Revelstoke in 2010.

Beckett was formerly a city councillor in New Zealand before moving to Alberta with his wife.

A previous murder trial in 2016 ended in a hung jury.

Beckett has been given a mandatory life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years.
