A 12-year-old Pierrefonds boy says a woman ran a stop sign, hit him with her car, and drove off on Tuesday.

Jamal Naqvi was walking through the intersection of Des Sources and Pavillon on Tuesday afternoon, as he does every day on his way home from Riverdale High School.

“It’s very coward-like to do that, to hit someone and drive away. At least ask them if they’re OK,” he told Global News.

Naqvi wasn’t badly injured. The car was going five or ten kilometres per hour. He said he has a sore back and hip.

“I just jumped and then I landed on her hood. She stopped five feet after. I got up as fast as I could and then after she just drove away as fast as she could. She floored it,” he said.

Right after the collision, he called his mother Nadia Zuberi. She was there within minutes.

“I was upset, angry, trying to figure out what was going on in her mind,” said Zuberi. “How could she hit a 12-year-old and just drive off without a simple ‘are you OK?'”

Zuberi called the police right away and filed a report. Investigators are now searching for the driver. They will be looking for witnesses and surveillance footage.

“We can look in the area if there’s cameras that could have seen this car a few moments before the incident happened,” said Montreal Police spokesperson Manuel Couture.

Naqvi provided them with a detailed description.

“Dark grey Honda Civic, newer model, white woman, maybe in her late 40s or early 50s. She had square framed glasses, was blonde, her hair was shoulder length. She had a bit of white in her hair,” Naqvi recounted to Global News.

“If anybody has information or knows something about this event, they can go to their local police station or call 911 and report what they know,” said Couture.

Naqvi hopes they find the woman who hit him.

“You hit a 12-year-old and drove off. That’s not OK. People should know that, but I guess she wasn’t taught that,” he said.

His mother just hopes the driver regrets what she did, and wants the city to make things safer at the intersection.

“There’s a good amount of signage, but I think there could be more signage. As drivers, we need to take our time and pay attention,” Zuberi said.

Pierrefonds didn’t respond to a request for comment.
