Starting this week deletion notices will go out to staff who provide bedside support for patients, including health care aides and dietary aides.

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority says a deletion notice let’s the employee know their position is changing, which could mean choosing a new job within their unit, bumping another employee or moving to another hospital.

Support staff at Victoria Hospital, Grace Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital will be the first to receive the notices as part of phase one.

It’s not clear if the changes could lead to job losses.

Last month the WRHA sent deletion notices to about 500 nurses advising them of a similar process.  At that time health officials promised any nurse who wanted a job within the WRHA would have one.

The union representing those front line workers said again Tuesday they’ve heard as many as 40 jobs could be be cut at Victoria Hospital.

“To date, the only ones that have received job security assurances are nurses,” MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky said. “We believe all members of the health care team should be treated fairly and the government and WRHA should live up to their commitment to all front line workers.”
