Former town official charged with defrauding Churchill, Man., of $140,000

WINNIPEG – A former civic official in northern Manitoba is accused of defrauding a town of more than $140,000.

Albert William Meijering, the former chief administrative officer for the Town of Churchill, has been charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of theft over $5,000 and one count of breach of trust, RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.

The alleged offences happened in August and September 2012 and concerned two “bogus invoices,” police said.

Meijering, 44, now lives in the RM of Springfield just outside Winnipeg. He’s been released and is due in court in Churchill in August.
