The West Hillhurst Arena in Calgary has gone through a much-needed makeover and celebrated its grand reopening Saturday.
The $4.3-million renovation project started in July of last year.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Saturday, which included local and federal dignitaries Mayor Naheed Nenshi and Ward 7 Coun. Druh Farrell.

The renovations include upgrades to all operating systems as well as new rink boards, glass and a new level concrete pad.
Funding for the project came from the City of Calgary and the Government of Canada’s “Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.”
“Communities depend on sporting facilities to help maintain active lifestyles and be a central place for social activities. The improvements to the West Hillhurst Arena will continue to help foster an energized community, while enhancing the services that it offers,” said Navdeep Bains, the minister of innovation, science and economic development.
The arena is located on 19 Street and 6 Avenue N.W. and is operated by the West Hillhurst Community Association.
It’s home to the Northwest Warriors Minor Hockey Association, the NCHL adult rec leagues, and the West Hillhurst Skate Club.
