Statistics Canada said Friday that Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate in August was 6.4 per cent, down from 6.6 per cent in July.
The drop was mainly due to fewer people in the labour force, as the number of jobs held steady.

The agency reported 1,200 less people were in the work force in August.
Saskatchewan shed 1,200 full-time positions in the month, which was offset by an increase of 1,300 part-time jobs.
Nationally, the unemployment rate declined by 0.1 point to 6.2 per cent, the lowest it has been since October 2008.

Canada’s labour market also posted its ninth-straight month of job gains in August, the longest monthly growth streak since the financial crisis nine years ago.
The agency also noted that wages grew 1.8 per cent last month compared to a year ago, the biggest increase since last October.
