WINNIPEG – Don’t worry, there’s no parking ban in place after the latest snowstorm – because the city has no plan to plow residential streets.

The city’s clearing snow off main routes, back lanes and sidewalks, but plans to wait for the snow on residential streets to melt, saying the “smooth compacted snow surface” makes plowing unnecessary.

The snowstorm on Monday dropped 17 centimetres of snow on the city and all Priority 1 streets (main routes) have been plowed, the city said in a news release.

Priority 2 streets were plowed Tuesday and plowing was started on sidewalks on main routes, bus routes and collector streets.

Back lane plowing is also underway and other sidewalks will be plowed once priority sidewalks are cleared.

Public works will continue to monitor the condition of streets, the news release said.
